wicked warrior and sassy statistics

One of the (many) things I love about yoga is the many many different approaches to asana practice. Some of them work with my body, some of them don't, but there really is something for everyone.

Take Virabhadrasana 1 for example (this pose came up in my twenty minute sequence the other day). This is a relatively modern posture, it certainly doesn't pop up in any of the classical texts and as such there are many different approaches to it. This Yoga Journal article runs through five of the main ones. I tend to teach this posture in the Viniyoga tradition, like Gary Kraftsow in this article, but give them all a try and see which one works for you. I'd be interested to know!

There is also a potted history of the story behind the name of this posture.

According to my blog statistics an average of 70 people a day read this blog. Who are you? Where do you come from? Are you spam bots or real people? Say hello, I'd love to hear from you!

i LOVED that article in the yoga journal. such a beautiful example of how not one discipline is "right" :)

I really like "goddess warrior" or "reversed warrior".... it just feels so graceful out of warrior 1. :)

One of my favorite things about yoga is that there are so many possibilities for each pose, and you still get the benefits. Miraculous!

Not only am I not a spambot, I'm in Cambridge too! So I completely relate to these cold, grey, wet fenland days. We should get tea - I've been reading your blog for a while, and we have so much in common. Drop me a line!

Loved this article! Warrior I is often one of the poses that I just "go through the motions" with. It's a good reminder that this pose can be whatever I want it to be on any given day!

I also am one of the 70 and love reading your posts! I love reading how others practice and live yoga!

I just found your blog this week, but have been reading back through the archives a bit. I love the accessible "yoga for everyone" attitude you promote here, and the emphasis on developing a home practice is excellent. I wish more yogis would explore their practice solo. It can be so revealing.

Well, I'm new here, and I'm me, and I'm greatly enjoying your blog, especially your gorgeous, graceful, classic photos in the banner.

Is it okay if I say they're evocative of a Audrey Hepburn-like grace?

(And, no, I'm not just trying to butter you up - they truly are lovely and I am a firm believer in paying sincere compliments whenever I can.)

You've inspired me to play around with Warrior I tonight!

It is so refreshing to read about multiple approaches to a pose instead of reading how one way is "the" way, isn't it! I teach the Ashtanga way (although often I have the back knee on the ground for beginners in Sun Sals B, coming into low lunge and then lifting the arms) but I really do find that teaching the Anusara principles helps 90% of people get a deeper understanding of the poses.

Now for a practical question, how do you know these snazzy stats??
